Vintage Crochet Ribbed House Slippers Free Pattern |
Modern Pattern:
This vintage crochet slipper pattern uses a lightweight yarn (like a sport or DK weight) and creates a ribbed texture. Modern crocheters may want to substitute a similar yarn and adjust hook size as needed to achieve the desired gauge. The pattern uses US crochet terminology.
Toe:
Chain 11. Turn.
Round 1: Double crochet (dc) in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each of the next 8 chains. Work 3 dc in the last chain. Dc in each of the next 9 chains down the other side of the foundation chain (working into the same stitches as the first 9 dc). Chain 1, turn.
Round 2: Ten dc in the next 10 dc (working in the back loop only to create a rib). 3 dc in the next stitch (the center stitch). Ten dc in the next 10 dc (back loop only). Chain 1, turn.
Rounds 3-5: Repeat Round 2, increasing 1 dc on each side of the center stitch in each round.
Round 6: Dc in each dc around (no increases). Chain 1, turn.
Round 7: Dc in each dc around, working 3 dc in the center stitch.
Repeat Rounds 6 and 7 until you have 25 ribs (or until the vamp is the desired depth). You can also widen every row by working 2 dc in one stitch, then 2 dc in the next stitch on alternating sides of the center increase.
Side of Foot:
Work 24 dc in the next 24 dc. Chain 1, turn. Dc in each dc across. Chain 1, turn. Continue in this manner until the strip is long enough to extend comfortably around the sole (approximately 44 ribs). Join neatly to the 24 dc on the opposite side of the vamp.
Beading (Top of Slipper):
Chain 10. Skip 5 ribs, treble treble (tr tr – yarn over 3 times) between the next 2 ribs. Chain 1. Tr tr between the next 2 ribs. Chain 5. Repeat from * around, ending with 1 tr tr. Chain 1. Join to the 5th chain of the initial chain-10.
Ruching:
Using three strands of yarn, insert the hook into a stitch, wrap the yarn over the hook 4 times, and pull through. Repeat in each stitch, pulling the loops out to approximately ¾ inch. Always take the yarn closest to you to the next stitch. Repeat this ruching technique along the bottom of the beading as well, covering the beading completely.
Finishing:
Thread an elastic band or tape through the beading between the two tr tr stitches. Make a ribbon bow (using a shade that matches the yarn) and attach it to the instep.
