Vintage Crochet Baby Booties No. 2 Free Pattern |
Modern Pattern:
This vintage crochet bootie pattern uses a lightweight yarn (like sport or DK weight) in two colors, white and pink. Modern crocheters should choose a similar yarn and adjust hook size to achieve the desired gauge. The pattern uses US crochet terminology.
Leg (Cuff):
Using white yarn, chain 37 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring, being careful not to twist the chain.
Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as a treble crochet), treble crochet (tr) in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain-3.
Rounds 2-3: Using pink yarn, double crochet (dc) in each stitch around. Join.
Repeat Rounds 1, 2, and 3 three times in total, creating 4 ribs each of pink and white.
Round 13: Chain 3 (counts as a tr). Using white yarn, skip the first stitch of the last round. Tr in the next stitch, then tr back in the skipped stitch, forming a crossed treble. Repeat from * around. Join.
Round 14: Using pink yarn, dc in a stitch, chain 3. Repeat from * around. Fasten off securely.
Foot (Sole):
Row 1 (Afghan Stitch/Tunisian Crochet): Using white yarn, attach at the 17th tr from the back of the leg. Draw up a loop through each of the next 6 stitches, keeping all loops on the hook. Yarn over and draw through the first loop. Yarn over and draw through 2 loops. Repeat from * until all loops are worked off. Insert hook under the small vertical bar formed by working off the last row, draw up a loop. Repeat from * until you have the same number of loops on the hook as before. Continue in this manner until you have 9 rows of Afghan stitch.
Foot (Rest of Foot):
Using white yarn, attach at the back of the leg. Dc in each stitch around the leg and around the instep. Work 4 more rows of dc, one dc in each stitch of the previous row, working through both loops (not back loop only). Then, work 5 rows of pink dc in the same way, joining the last row as before.
Finishing:
Finish with a cord and tassels or a ribbon, running it through the 4th row of tr around the top of the bootie.
